LeBron James odds and props

LeBron James isn’t the same guy anymore, but he’s still one of the NBA’s top stars, even if he’s getting limited playing time due to age and injuries. Even so, our LeBron is focused on player support, such as his chance to score tonight.

#WashedKing is a nickname LeBron James gave himself a few seasons ago when many thought Father Time was closing in on him.

While LBJ is far from eliminated, he is currently a #LimitedKing starting the 2023-24 season (more on that below).

When the Lakers take on the Phoenix Suns at home tonight, it gets even more daunting when you evaluate the NBA odds.

Fear not, though, loyal bettors: Our NBA picks appear alongside the King in our NBA player props, covering LeBron James odds, and you should too.

LeBron James NBA prop selection

LeBron over 20.5 points (-110)

Talk about a rocky start to the campaign. The Los Angeles Lakers spent the new year watching the Denver Nuggets hoist a championship banner and then run off the floor a mile high.

Now, the Lakers have acquired the latest iteration of the Phoenix Suns superteam, which includes Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal (who may be sidelined with a back injury), per crypto.com , but still).

On top of that, it was revealed on opening night that LeBron James will play between 28-30 minutes per night in the foreseeable future. He apparently approved the plan in an effort to keep the 38-year-old healthy in his 21st NBA season. Most importantly, the Lakers want him to be at his peak in the playoffs.

Last season, James played only five games with 30 minutes or less, and his numbers weren’t great. Only once in these situations has LeBron managed a total of 20.5 points. One of them was L’s performance against the Suns on April 7, when he scored 16 points, six rebounds and six assists in 29 minutes.

However, context is important. Only one of those games was played before the All-Star break — the All-Star weekend game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

We also know that before Nola’s game, James injured his foot against the Thunder and became the NBA’s all-time scoring leader. That injury ultimately sidelined him for much of the rush. He chose not to have surgery and returned with just eight games remaining in the regular season.

For Lyndon Johnson, it was a rest and pain management program followed by a wonderful run that culminated in a trip to the Western Conference Finals.

A healthy LeBron performed well in the first game, scoring a team-high 21 points on 10-for-16 shooting, and tied for the team-high with 8 rebounds and 5 assists in 29 minutes.

This glaring problem is one that teams led by James have faced many times – when he sits, his team’s offense struggles. Los Angeles was +7 against the Nuggets with Lyndon Johnson on the court, but was a horrific -19 in the 19 minutes he was on the floor.

LeBron needs to remain ultra-productive during his short tenure, and I believe he scores enough in the 2023 home opener to earn a betting win.

In addition to James’ score, we can also place some bets on parlays in the same game. In the post-game press conference after losing the first game, he was very satisfied with LeBron’s zero-error performance.

Nights like this don’t come often for James, a high-ball handler and Los Angeles’ leading shot creator. A year ago, James had zero turnovers in only four of 55 regular season games. That’s two more than he had in his previous two seasons combined.

For a player who hasn’t averaged fewer than three turnovers per game in 20 years, it’s a classic return to the mean.

Finally we’re introduced to LeBron’s running mate Anthony Davis, who has a lot to prove after a disastrous second half in Denver. Davis went 0-for-6 from the field in the final 24 minutes and failed to score a point.

That came after a strong first half in which he scored 17 points and matched up with Nikola Jokic. His statistics include eight rebounds and four assists.

With LeBron limited by injuries and Davis needing an immediate bounce-back year, he should – tell me you’ve heard this before – grab the torch and become the Lakers’ unicorn.

This is a good place for him. “Eyebrow” ruined the Suns last year — when they had a legitimate big man in Deandre Ayton to guard him.

Now? Phoenix has a lot of spare parts in his Cephalon squad, a residual effect of pouring monster capital into the Three-Headed Star Force. There is simply no way Jusuf Nurkic, Drew Eubanks or Bol Bol can contain AD.

Phoenix also doesn’t want Durant to go head-to-head with Davis the entire game. Not when he’s tasked with taking on a lot of the scoring duties in Beal’s possible absence.

In his last three games against Phoenix, Davis averaged 26 points, 17 rebounds and 3.6 assists. If he’s motivated and (gulp) not injured, his points/rebounds/assist totals should top 38.5.
