The architect Francisco González Pulido worked hand in hand with stylists in the search to create a new concept for this type of space.
The stylist Ted Gibson and her husband the colorist Jason Backe commissioned the Mexican architect Francisco González Pulido to design a beauty salon that would transform conventional appointments into an intimate and unique experience for each user. The project took place in Los Angeles, California, in 2019.
“Building light is not only a theoretical position, but an ethical one… lightness is physical and metaphysical. Lightness is less of everything, reduce, simplify, it is an endless search for technological frontiers in architecture ”, FGP Atelier
Starring by Ted Gibson It is made up of 5 personal capsules isolated from the rest of space, called clouds. Each module allows to create different atmospheres independently through the manipulation of lighting, sound and even entertainment service, since each cloud has a 10-inch tablet.
Ted Gibson and Jason Backe worked hand in hand with the director of FGP Atelier in this new concept of beauty salon, as they sought to offer a space designed on the scale of the human body and experiences that promote exclusivity and quality – considering that among their clients there are Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway and Ashley Green, while services cost between $ 900 and $ 2,000.
The white clouds offer a customizable scenery to the visitor and can change to any color, in addition to the default scenes such as Everyday sunshine, Indoors, Moonlight and additional color settings that seek to stimulate different moods.
The entire space can be controlled only by voice commands (Amazon Alexa) and thanks to this technology, the user will see the behavior of their hair or image at different times of the day.
Starring by Ted Gibson it also features a waiting area in lieu of a reception desk, a laundry area protected by thin Plexiglas curtains and a manipulable vanity, as well as an entertainment room and interactive display windows.
The partnership with Amazon opens the space to more customers, since it is not necessary to go to an appointment with the stylists. It is possible to enter to buy products, add them directly to the shopping cart and receive them later at your home that same day.
One of the most important aspects of the show is that there is no cash handling, since the association with Amazon allows you to purchase products or services in the establishment and pay for them through the app.
This project designed by the Mexican Francisco González Pulido creates a new concept of beauty salons and opens the door to other forms of design in which light becomes relevant as an element, functional, exclusive and a sales strategy.
