Tom Brady caused a stir when he recently declared that “there’s a lot of mediocrity in the NFL today,” but another NFL legend doesn’t necessarily agree with him.
Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders said he thinks Brady’s perspective may be skewed because of his former team’s lack of success so far this season.
“Maybe he’s talking about the teams he played for, but what about the teams I played for?” Sanders said at the meeting. RG3 and those people Podcast (h/t Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk). “The team I played for, no. There was nothing mediocre about this team.”
Sanders was referring to the fact that the Detroit Lions lost to the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving, but are 8-3 and still lead the NFC North, while the New England Patriots The Indiana Pacers are 2-8 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 4-6 entering their respective games on Sunday.
“Look, for us as Lions fans, maybe I was just blinded by how well we led this division and how well we played,” Sanders continued. “But I still see a great product. I still see a great team and a very popular game. I’ll listen to whatever he says and I’ll have to go into more detail about what he’s referring to, but I think it’s It’s the greatest product, the greatest thing that we’ve ever seen as Lions fans. So I’m going to enjoy this for a while.”
The Lions have missed the playoffs each of the past six seasons, so it’s understandable that Sanders and other Detroit fans are excited about this year’s success.
The Lions will try to get back on track next Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.
