Iga Swiatak achieved something extraordinary with her victory at the 2024 TotalEnergies Open Qatar.

Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek has been on a roll over the past two years. She notched 13 wins against top-10 opponents in 2023 and 15 wins against top-10 opponents in 2022, joining Serena Williams in 2013 and 2014. The first woman to achieve this feat. Swiatek also has 135 wins in two calendar years, matching Serena Williams’ record of 136 wins in 2012 and 2013.

Swiatek starts 2024 on a high note as the WTA World No. 1 with 100 wins or more. She joins a group of legends who have achieved the same feat, including Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Serena Williams, Martina Hingis and Justine Henin. Swiatek is currently in his 92nd week as the world’s No. 1 player, and is within striking distance of Lindsay Davenport’s 98th week.

Swiatek suffered a minor setback at the Australian Open, exiting in the third round, but bounced back to win the 2024 TotalEnergies Open in Qatar. However, she failed to complete the “Desert Double” as she reached the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships. She was the last seed to withdraw from the second WTA 1000 event of the season.

Chris Evert is the proud owner of 154 singles titles, including 18 Grand Slam titles. Evert’s 154 individual titles rank second in the Open Era. Her 125-match winning streak on clay was second to none, lasting from August 1973 to May 1979, until Tracy Austin defeated her in straight sets in Rome.

Evert holds the record for the most consecutive Grand Slam semifinals in the Open Era, with 34 appearances from the 1971 U.S. Open to the 1983 French Open.

Martina Navratilova

Martina Navratilova holds the record for the most singles titles in the Open era with 167 titles. The Czech-American legend also won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, 31 Grand Slam women’s doubles titles and 10 Grand Slam mixed doubles titles. No one has surpassed her 31 doubles Grand Slam titles.

Steffi Graf

Steffi Graf is famous not only for winning 107 singles titles during her illustrious career, but also for ruling the world rankings for 377 weeks (186 of them consecutively). In 1988, at the age of 19, she achieved a rare feat and won the Golden Slam. That year, she won all four Grand Slams and won the gold medal at the Seoul Olympics.

Serena Williams began her career in 1995, and her sister Venus Williams turned pro a year ago. Serena was the first of the two to win a Grand Slam title, winning the 1999 U.S. Open. She went on to win 23 more Grand Slam trophies, just one shy of Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam trophies.

She also won an Olympic doubles gold medal with her sister at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, defeating the Dutch pair of Christie Bugert and Miriam Oremans 6-1, 6-1 in the final. Her impressive career includes 73 singles titles.

Monica Seles

Monica Seles won 53 singles titles in her career, ranking ninth on the all-time list. In 1991, at the age of 17, she reached the world number one for the first time, becoming the youngest world number one at the time (now second only to Martina Hingis). She had year-end No. 1 rankings in 1991 and 1992 and won seven of eight Grand Slams until she was stabbed by a Steffi Graf fan in 1993.

Only Graf had a better record, winning eight of the nine Grand Slams between 1988 and 1990. Seles took a two-year hiatus after the attack, returning in 1995 and briefly sharing the world number one spot with Graf.

Martina Hingis

In 1997, Martina Hingis won the Australian Open at the age of 16 years and two months, making history as the youngest Grand Slam champion in the 20th century. She also became the youngest world number one in history at the age of 16 years and 6 months. The Swiss star is the youngest player to win a Grand Slam singles title in the Open era. She won a total of 43 number one singles during her career.

In 1997, Hingis won six consecutive tournaments, including the season-opening Australian Open, with which she became the second-youngest player to win a Grand Slam singles title at age 16. The youngest was Lottie Dod, who won Wimbledon at the age of 15. 1887.

Justin Hennig

Justine Hennig’s extraordinary achievements in a career spanning more than a decade suggest she has been playing for much longer. She reached her peak from 2003 to 2007, when she won all seven Grand Slam titles. In those five years, she won four French Opens, two U.S. Opens and an Australian Open. Henin also reached the Wimbledon finals twice, in 2001 and 2006. She won the WTA year-end No. 1 three times in 2003, 2006 and 2007.

Henin is one of the few women to reach all four Grand Slam finals in one year, a feat she achieved in 2006. She also won a gold medal in singles at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
