On March 18, 1995, Michael Jordan lit up the NBA and the world of basketball enthusiasts with just two words. At the time, rumors were swirling that Jordan might return to the Bulls 17 months after retiring. He quickly put all speculation to rest with a succinct statement from his agent, David Falk: “I’m back.”
For Jordan, less is more. Although Jordan has been a media darling throughout his career, he prefers to let his game do the talking. In 1995, he announced his long-awaited return to the Chicago Bulls, and this was no different.
Shortly after the Bulls won their third consecutive NBA championship in 1993, Jordan retired from the NBA and has since devoted himself to a professional baseball career. Despite his success in the minor leagues, he couldn’t escape the competitive drive that drove him on the basketball court. After much thought and training, Jordan decided to return to the sport that made him a household name.
The news of his comeback caused great excitement and anticipation among fans and players. Obviously, the emergence of MJ will once again change the pattern of the NBA and bring new vitality to the league.
True to form, Jordan did not disappoint upon his return. Although he and the Bulls failed in the 1995 NBA playoffs, losing to the upstart Orlando Magic, Jordan made a comeback the next season.
In the 1995-96 season, Jordan led the Bulls to a record 72 regular season victories and a historic fourth championship. He then led the Bulls to two consecutive NBA championships, cementing his status as one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
