And the other main characters in the film are South Korean actor Choi Min-sik, who became famous thanks to Oldboy (2003), here as gangster Jang. AND Amr Waked (already seen in Syrian, 2005), Egyptian by origin, but has been in Spain for many years (he is an opponent of the regime, which sentenced him to 8 years in prison): this is police captain Pier Del Rio.
Curiosity about “Lucy”
It took Luc Besson almost 10 years to finish writing the script. Lucy. And the efforts were rewarded. With a budget of $40 million, the film ultimately earned 463 box office receipts. This makes it one of the most successful French films internationally.
The main idea of the film that a person uses only 10 percent of his brain is a lie. Repeatedly proven by the scientific community. Besson understands this very well. But he said it was a great idea for a sci-fi film.
The choice of the name Lucy is not accidental. A reference that becomes apparent in the film is to the “grandmother of humanity.” That is, an almost complete skeleton of a specimen of Australopithecus afarensis, discovered in Ethiopia in 1974 by an American paleoanthropologist. Donald Johanson.
Little Australopithecus is so named because the camp radio was playing this song that day. Lucy in the sky with diamonds belonging The Beatles. Living 3.2 million years ago, it is considered one of the ancestors of the genus Homo.
According to Luc Besson’s definition, Lucy this is “part Leon (1994), one part Origin (2010) and part 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)”. It’s no coincidence that several shots in the film are clear tributes to these three films.
