Madison Beer has addressed the “unpleasant” controversy surrounding her previously canceled appearance in Ariana Grande’s “Thank You, You’re Next” music video.

Back in 2020, influencer and singer Madison Beer received a huge amount of backlash after claiming that she was supposed to appear in Ariana Grande’s video for her song “Thank U, Next.”

“I hate saying this because everyone on Twitter is like, ‘You’re lying, I hate you.’ I should have been in the video,” Beer said during a meeting with fans.

“I was in Miami when they filmed it. She told me the whole concept and said, “Yeah, we’re doing this Mean Girls thing.” And I was in my bedroom in Miami and I thought, ‘Fly back to Los Angeles right now!'”

The video went viral on social media, drawing criticism from Grande’s fans who were convinced Beer was lying about her alleged appearance in the video, which also features cameos from YouTuber Colleen Ballinger, influencer Gaby DeMartino and even Kris Jenner.

However, Beer addressed the matter approximately three years later, admitting that the incident was “unpleasant” but stating that she had indeed been invited to take part in the project.

“I was!” she explained in a recent interview on The Zach Sang Show. “I didn’t even want to bring it up, my brain was just saying, ‘Say it.’ I can laugh about the whole situation now, but people were so mean to me about it.”

“Listen, the way I said it is, of course, cringe,” she admitted. “The way it came out of my mouth was fucking unpleasant. But I was just talking to some of my fans and I don’t know… it was fucking annoying.”

“I’ll get on the hate train with you. But I would never lie about something like that. That’s what upset me the most. …why would I lie in public if I know people are filming me?”

Madison then stated that she had the receipts, but felt that displaying them would have made an already “awkward” situation even more awkward.

Beer has often been compared to Ariana Grande, and fans have called her a “wannabe” in the past – something she was repulsed by and continues to struggle with years later.
