Madrid markets celebrate Irish Halloween

At this time in October, we can divide people into two main categories: those who are very closed-minded about their Halloween plans, and those who believe that last-minute plans allow them to celebrate the party while taking into account that a) they don’t want to spend more than necessary money, and b) a ticketed event touches or hangs the following sign sold out.

Fortunately, in Madrid the possibilities are many and there are celebrations that meet this requirement and even They have one advantage that sets them apart: Just like the Irish Halloween that the Peace Market celebrated starting yesterday.

This famous market, located in the Salamanca neighborhood (Calle de Ayala, 28B), will be immersed in Halloween celebrations from this Wednesday until October 31 next year, with the help of the Embassy of Ireland in Spain. Its Irish Origins: Samhain, a Celtic Festival.

The ancient Irish celebrated the transition from summer to winter with this festival, when it was believed that “the veil between the mortal and spiritual worlds become thinner, allowing interaction between the two«, they explain on their website.

Irish traditions on this day include costumes, traditional games, lighting bonfires, carving turnips and pumpkins, trick-or-treating (based on the beliefs of the Tuatha De Danaan) or recipes such as bambrak (bread with raisins). Some of these can be seen at Irish Halloween markets these days.
