Manchester City could be deducted FFP points as Lionel Messi praises Liverpool’s Erling Haaland

Last week, Liverpool’s city rivals Everton were docked 10 points for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. Everton intend to appeal against the independent commission’s ruling, which saw Everton drop to 19th in the table with just four points.

Given that this penalty is the largest such penalty in Premier League history, the question being asked by many Liverpool supporters is what will happen to Manchester City. There are 115 charges in total against Guardiola’s side, which are far more serious and date back to 2009.

The club maintains its innocence but rival fans are wondering what precedent sanctions would set if Everton were found guilty. City have won five of seven league titles since Guardiola took over in 2016, beating Liverpool by a point in both the 2018/19 and 2021/22 seasons.

There is no indication that a decision is imminent on this particular situation, but it at least provides a controversial backdrop as Liverpool prepare to travel to the Etihad for a crucial game on Saturday afternoon. Lionel Messi praises Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez

Lionel Messi regards Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez as an “outstanding” counter-attacking threat after Uruguay beat Argentina 2-0 in World Cup qualifying. Part of the reason for this is that, like Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, the 24-year-old is extremely quick and able to get in behind opposition defences.

But it’s not just the physical qualities they share – Nunez and Haaland are each other’s “tactical clones” and on Saturday, they will go one-on-one. In what could be a crucial game in the title race, few can decide their team’s fate more than they do. You can read Josh Williams’ full article here.
