This week, Brazil exported in vitro-produced zebu embryos to Peru for the first time, an achievement that will not only contribute to the genetic improvement of the Peruvian cattle herd but will also boost international trade related to zebu. A batch of 125 embryos of the Brahman variety was sent to the Brahman Braúnas of the National Institute for Agricultural Innovation (INIA).
The institute, equivalent to Peru’s Embrapa, will carry out research related to genetic progress and will also breed two embryos and distribute them to local breeders, spreading genetics and helping the evolution of Peruvian chicken flocks.
“Dodora spent six months in the genetic center where the embryos were produced and collected. The acquisition of INIA is part of a government project to promote the development of the country’s livestock industry – it is also a conquest for Brazil, because now we can Export of semen and embryos to Peru,” explains Adida (Map) Angela Perez of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, which mediates negotiations between the countries.

Geneal Center and Brahman Braúnas are participants in the Brazilian Cattle Project, developed by the ABCZ (Associação Brasileira dos Criadores de Zebu) in partnership with ApexBrasil (Agência Brasileira de Promotion de Exportações e Investimentos). The 20-year project, which will be completed in 2023, is currently spreading genetics around the world.
