Mauricio Molina died in Chile at the age of 56. It’s estimated to be between Thursday night and early Friday morning. He competed in the AAG’s Lagoonada Golf Staff Championship on Monday before traveling to neighboring countries to compete at Brisas de Chicureo GC.
Molina has won more than thirty international and domestic competitions, including the 2022 Argentine Senior Professional Championship and the Riegler & Partner Legends in Austria, and also holds the controversial annual Argentine Senior Open double title The title is in his land, Cordovari Rio Cuarto. Mauricio Molina is the nephew of another great Argentinian player, Florentino Molina.
He won there in 2017 and 2020; this last victory was very emotional for the pro at Boulogne GC, since at the beginning of the year he was hospitalized with peritonitis and later pneumonia caused by a nosocomial virus.
A good companion, friendly and well-mannered, he began his career as a caddy and turned professional in 1985. He competed on the Canadian Tour, where he had two wins, and on the European Tour from 1998 to 2001. That same year, he finished third in the British Senior Open and his career continued to rise. He will be remembered and deeply missed by the entire Argentinian golf community.
