Megan Thee Stallion is getting her music back into her own hands amid a grueling legal battle with her record label 1501 Certified Entertainment.

During an Instagram Live on Thursday (October 12), the rapper revealed that she is not signed to a label and will be funding her own music projects in the future, as seen in screen recordings shared by fans on social media. “This part of my album is heavily funded by Megan Thee Stallion because we’re trying to get off… Y’all know what tea is. But now I don’t have a label,” she explained. “Everything we do is funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pockets. So the budget comes from me. Damn hot girls Productions! The next thing you see will be straight from Megan Thee Stallion’s brain and Megan Thee Stallion’s wallet. We’re in my pockets, beauties, so let’s make ours big.”

Meg added that she’s “excited” to be releasing music on her own. “It’s really just me until we sign with a new label. But I don’t want to sign with a new label right now because I just want to do it myself,” she shared.

The star rapper has been at loggerheads with 1501 for more than two years, claiming the company tricked the young artist into signing an “unconscionable” record deal in 2018 that didn’t meet industry standards. She filed the current case in February 2022, claiming that 1501 misclassified her as an individual. Megan Thee Stallion filed a new complaint in August 2022, seeking more than $1 million in damages over allegations that 1501 “systematically failed to pay sufficient royalties.” 1501 then responded with more accusations, claiming that Megan Thee Stallion was actually owed “millions of dollars.”
