Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, celebrated on Wednesday, August 4, the entry into a new decade of her life. Henry of England’s wife and wife turned 40 and celebrated from her home in Montecito, California. To commemorate that vital milestone, Markle wanted to launch a solidarity initiative in which not only her but a handful of famous friends will participate.
On the same day 4 the Duchess released a video with actress and comedian Melissa McCarthy simulating a video call. The tone was humorous: McCarthy, who first appeared in a bathrobe, came to put on a flower dress, pearl necklace, white gloves and even a large flower-shaped headdress to have tea with her. Meanwhile, Markle appeared on a perfectly orchestrated and never-before-seen stage: her montecito home. The Duchess sat at a huge table and with her laptop resting on a pile of copies of the children’s book she has taken out, called The Bench (The bank). Colonial style, behind it is a large fireplace; in front, a bouquet of white roses; the light, indirect from some appliques and entering through a large side window. All in white colors and earth, perfectly put together.
The Duchess’s initiative is explained by herself in that video (which has been published by several media outlets and which McCarthy herself has shared on her social networks; the Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not have it). Although the comic actress’ intention is to get matching tattoos —Meghan says it’s better when she turns 50—, organizing a reunion of the series Suits (the same one that launched Markle to fame) or throwing a party on a yacht, Markle explains: her intention is for 40 friends to donate 40 minutes to advise women who are rejoining the job market after, as she explains, “two million women in the U.S. and tens of millions in the world have lost their jobs because of covid-19.” In addition, the initiative is open to anyone who wants to sign up to give up their time.
Markle’s initiative aims to inspire famous people from around the world to help in her cause. McCarthy herself has already explained that she will be part of it. Surprisingly, members of the British royal family have also joined, in this case Princess Eugenie, daughter of Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and cousin of Henry. “To celebrate my dear Meghan’s birthday I contribute 40 minutes of mentoring to support women coming back into working life,” Eugenia wrote on Instagram, where she has 1.5 million followers. “If you can, join me and commit 40 minutes of your time to the community.”
In the video, Markle revealed some hitherto unseen details of her personal life: her house, her living room, her work table. In addition, it showed a triptych of black and white photographs, including one of Enrique kissing a baby, which would be a first portrait of little Lilibet, the second daughter of the marriage born last June. In addition, Markle wore jewels full of meaning: two chains with the constellations of Taurus and Gemini, the zodiacal signs of Archie and Lilibet. According to the American press they are designed by Logan Hollowell and have a price of about 1,400 euros each. In addition, the fake shots end with the stellar appearance of Enrique juggling from behind.
