Tattoo removal, a growing trend which goes hand in hand with the love-obsession for the indelible designs imprinted on our skin. According to a survey carried out by the National Institute of Health, in Italy there are 6.9 million tattooed people, or 12.8% of the Italian population, a percentage that rises to 13.2% if we also consider ex-tattooed people. Still, in our country tattoos are more common among women (13.8% of the interviewees) compared to men (11.7%) and the first tattoo is done on average at the age of 25. Again, men prefer to get tattoos on their arms, shoulders and legs, while women especially like tattoos on their backs, feet and ankles.

How to remove tattoos

And yes, tattoos are an unstoppable trend, but the truth is that more and more people are choosing to have them removed. “Whether it’s after years or a few months, when the tattoo no longer represents the person, or maybe changes color or deforms because it was done badly, so they turn to doctors’ offices to understand which are the most effective removal options. We see an increasing number of requests for removal, from people of all ages,” he tells us Diletta Siniscalchi Minna, founder of Villa Brasini Beauty Clinic in Milan, Rome, Naples and Forte dei Marmi. By her, among other things, they are going to have tattoos removed that no longer like such stars Melissa Satta and Chiara Biasi. What are, in the current state of technology, the best methods for removing a tattoo? «Tattoo removal is an increasingly popular laser therapy treatment. The Q-Switched laser guarantees excellent results, capable of treating all types of touch, both black and colored ones (only changes the wavelength setting). The laser precisely reads the pigment and triggers the so-called popcorn reaction, with formation of small white papules, which in the coming days turn into crusts, going to fall naturally within a week to 10 days. In doing so, they take away a layer of color with them. Once the tattoo has healed you will immediately notice a lightening, which session after session becomes more and more evident. In association with the Q-Switched laser a specific laser can be used to best treat the healing phase of the skinthus avoiding the risk of permanent halos and traces of the tattoo. The skin, thanks to this combination of laser therapy, returns completely intact. Obviously the whole process requires patience and respecting the correct timing. Generally the tattoo disappears within 5-6 sessions at a distance of one month from each other. They can become more if the tattoo artist, by pressing hard with the needle, has deposited the pigment in depth. On the contrary, if the tattoo is shaded and watercolored, even if it is very extensive, it will come off quickly. We remind you that tattoo removal is done in autumn-winter, so that the sun does not interfere with the process. Undergoing this type of laser, which can be directed on any area of the face and body (for example, even on the eyebrows), requires minimal pain tolerance. At the end of the session, the doctor always reminds the patient to apply a specific healing cream».
