Last year there was talk of nothing but the dress of Kim Kardashian and the 7 kg weight loss diet to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s original “Happy Birthday” Dress. A creation of enormous economic and cultural value irreparably damaged by the influencer. This year, however, after much fanfare, there may be no family member Kardashian al Met Gala 2023. To report the indiscretion is Page Six, according to which Anna Wintour would have thinned the guest list to the point of excluding the queens of the social world. And to think that in 2022 the clan had presented itself for the first time in full: from mother Kris Jenner to sisters Kourtney and Khloé, up to stepsisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner.
Well this time, after the numerous criticisms leveled at the most glamorous fashion event ever, struck down by some insiders who don’t appreciate the excessive openness to social media stars, the Met Gala godmother would have decided to run for cover to make the appointment, where as a rule cell phones and selfies are banned, even more exclusive. Confirmations for the moment have not yet arrived, what is certain is that if the indiscretion were to be ascertained it would be a big blow for Kim, who made her debut for the first time at the exclusive fundraising party in favor of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2013 with then-husband Kanye West while pregnant with their first child and has never missed an issue since. Although the first impact was not the best, as the digital entrepreneur herself said on Twitter in 2019: “I didn’t know anyone (and) I’m sure nobody wanted me there”. She adds that after the event, “I went home (and) cried with insecurity.”
Despite the initial sense of marginalization from a world – that of fashion – which has always been very selective and elitist, Kim Kardashian has managed to never go unnoticed with her spectacular dresses: from the floral print maternity one by Givenchy to the liquid effect by Thierry Mugler, from Lanvin to Roberto Cavalli, from Balmain to Vivienne Westwood, from Versace to Balenciaga, up to the already mentioned vintage dress by Marilyn from 1962, always standing out as one of the most imaginative and showy guests of the Met. Her attractiveness also had a fascination on Khloé and Kourtney who finally allowed themselves to be convinced by her sister and attended her gala for the first time last year. After ten years, 2023 could be the first free Kardashian edition.
Among the great absentees at the 75th edition of the event, whose theme this year will be Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of BeautyKanye West will certainly also be missing, with whom “neither Vogue nor its editor-in-chief Anna Wintour intend to work again (…) after his anti-Semitic rants and support for the White Lives Matter cause” – as stated in an unequivocal press release –, nor Donald and Melania Trump who have not received an invitation to the annual soiree on the first Monday of May at the Metropolitan Museum in New York since 2012.
