Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler reunite for unannounced new movie

Jordan and Coogler’s project is reportedly an undefined “genre” movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , the two have previously collaborated on hit films such as “Black Panther” and “Tenet” and are currently developing a film to be produced by Coogler’s production company, Proximity Media. The project is so closely guarded that studio buyers and executives had to travel to the agency’s Beverly Hills offices last week to read Coogler’s script, THR reports. WME reps Coogler and Jordan.

Jordan will star in the untitled project, which is said to be a “genre” film being developed entirely in-house at Proximity Media. The film will reportedly feature period elements and is Coogler’s follow-up to 2013’sFruitvale Station“, the first for his production company. He serves as lead producer on the film along with his wife and co-producer Zinzi Coogler and co-producer Sev Ohanian.

Coogler and his team will reportedly meet with Hollywood executives for the second time this week to discuss next steps and their plans for the film. During this time, “production commitments will be required,” according to The Hollywood Reporter . Coogler’s team did not respond to a request for comment.

Coogler first rose to fame as the writer and director of “Fruitvale Station,” in which Jordan played Oscar Grant, a victim of police brutality. He went on to write and direct 2015’s “Tenet” (which also starred Jordan) and 2018’s “Black Panther,” which grossed more than $1.2 billion and became the highest-grossing film ever by a black director. He most recently co-produced the 2021 Fred Hampton biopic Judas and the Black Messiah, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, as well as the 2022 Marvel sequel Black Panther: Forever of Wakanda.

Jordan, who has starred in hit films and TV series including “The Wire,” “Creed II,” “Just Mercy,” “Fahrenheit 451” and “Friday Night Lights,” tried his hand at directing in 2023 with the release of “Creed III.” . The 36-year-old actor co-produced, directed and starred in the film, which received rave reviews and became the highest-grossing “Tenet” film to date. This year’s untitled project will be Jordan and Coogler’s sixth film together.
