Michael Jordan sends heartfelt message ahead of Ring of Honor ceremony

Michael Jordan did not attend Friday night’s inaugural Ring of Honor Gala. To make up for his absence, the GOAT shared a video with the organization ahead of this week’s festivities.

Thanks to Michael and Jerry Reinsdorf, Jordan also expressed his frustration For not being able to celebrate with his former teammates:

“I want to congratulate all the other winners. I’m sad I can’t be there tonight, but I don’t want to stop you guys from having fun. Believe me, I’m so grateful (and) so honored. You guys have supported me since I set foot in Chicago .

And, even today, I still see a lot of Chicago fans, so I think we made a big impression and changed what Chicago stood for in terms of championships. Every time you look up to the rafters, I hope you always remember where we were and where we are now. We will always be champions…

I will always be a Chicago Bulls player. I hope they continue to do well. “I hope to see other banners in the rafters and I hope this city will always be proud of the Chicago Bulls.”

While the celebration felt empty without the biggest name in franchise history joining in on the celebration, I’m glad he at least shared some heartfelt words with the city. Jordan will always be a global phenomenon, but there’s no denying that his connection to Chicago will remain special.

Unless the GOAT shocks the United Center, the Ring of Honor festivities will continue without him during tonight’s halftime ceremony. Dennis Rodman and Scottie Pippen are also yet to show up, but other big names like Toni Kukoc, Luke Longley, Artis Gilmore and Bob Love have arrived in Chicago to attend party.
