Owning a collection of Michael Jordan’s iconic Air Jordan sneakers can be quite expensive. Recently, Sotheby’s in New York auctioned off six Dynasty sneakers worn by Jordan during his six-time NBA championship series with the Chicago Bulls.
Astonishingly, these sneakers fetched a whopping $8 million at auction, confirming the sky-high price tag of owning a piece of Jordan memorabilia.
The game-worn Jordan memorabilia set a new global auction record with the second-highest price ever paid. Back in September 2022, his jersey from Game 1 of the NBA Finals from the iconic 1998 “The Last Dance” was sold for a staggering $10.091 million.
A complete set of the sneakers worn by Jordan when he won six NBA championships and six NBA Finals MVP awards sold for $8,032,800, setting a global sales record for game-used shoes, according to auction house Sotheby’s.
What does this set consist of?
Air Jordan VI (1991), Air Jordan VII (1992), Air Jordan VIII (1993), Air Jordan XI (1996), Air Jordan XII (1997) and Air Jordan XIV (1998) are the composition. Jordan also signed the Air Jordan VI, VIII, XI and XII sneakers.
After winning six championships and being named Finals MVP, Jordan mysteriously only wore one shoe each time. However, the story behind it shows the respect Jordan had for the Bulls staff.
Bulls communications director Tim Hallam hopes he can own a pair of Michael Jordan shoes if the Bulls win their first championship. However, Jordan followed this habit five more times.

What did Bram Wachter say?
“Today’s unprecedented prices are testament to the goats,” Brahm Wachter, head of Sotheby’s Modern Collectibles department, said in a statement. “There is no denying that The Dynasty Collection is among the most important collections in history. one of the largest collections of sports memorabilia in the world. The sale of these six championship-winning sneakers represents a truly unparalleled moment and a milestone in auction history that is unlikely to be repeated.”
Chicago Bulls dominance
The Chicago Bulls created their dynasty in the 1990s. They achieved a level of success rarely seen in basketball. They won because they had a great team, but Michael Jordan stood out among them.
Led by Michael Jordan, the Bulls never lost a final. They played six finals and won them all.
The crazy championship made everyone realize the greatness of Michael Jordan and put him into the perspective of the greatest players in NBA history.
An equally compelling factor is that the Bulls haven’t won an NBA championship since he left.
