A pair of big hands is to a basketball player what extraordinary, divine speed is to an NFL player. Not just talent, sometimes these physical abilities can give players an advantage over their opponents. As mentioned before, basketball players having big hands helps them control the ball better. We see Julius Erving, Shaquille O’Neal, and Michael Jordan as prime examples of this. However, Jordan’s friend and Miami Heat veteran Rex Chapman recently explained how the six-time NBA champion also has to deal with this shortcoming.
“The first few years I played against him, he couldn’t shoot,” Chapman said. He explained that it wasn’t that Jordan couldn’t shoot, but that his slashing action was too dangerous and the team was willing to let him shoot. Rex Chapman even came up with an interesting theory as to why shooting isn’t that easy for the Chicago Bulls guard.
For those of you who can’t compare the size of your hands to Jordan’s, his magnanimity‘Hands are approximately 9.75 inches large. Chapman recalled, “Michael picked the ball up off the floor and grabbed it and dunked it like a grapefruit… maybe a softball.” But according to Rex, this has its own drawbacks. “Try playing softball sometimes. See how that feels, because it’s weird. “

Even the Chicago Bulls legend himself mentioned this in an interview with Gene Siskel. Jordan explained that the wide gap between his thumb and index finger helps him grip the ball better, further comparing it to a unique example.
“The grip of grabbing the ball and being able to move it. It’s like having a paintbrush, for example.” Jordan said. In addition, he also mentioned Philadelphia 76ers legend Irving. Jordan shared, “Dr. J did this. If you notice Dr. J’s hands, you’ll see that his thumbs are far away from his fingers, which gives him a better grip. “He can catch the ball off the dribble and use it Do whatever he wants. “
