Michael Jordan owned countless cars during his golden years with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s. He would often pull up to the utility in a new Porsche, Mercedes or Ferrari, and his love for sports cars hasn’t really waned since. Anyone with as much NBA and Nike money as Jordan would do the same thing. However, he didn’t own the cars for very long, which means a lot of Jordan-owned sports cars are floating around. One of them can be yours right now: this 1991 BMW 850i is for sale on Bring a Trailer.
The current owner purchased the E31 850i in 1995 with only $30,000 donated between them and Jordan’s ownership. However, to prove that some of the thousands of items of clothing were worn by the Goat himself, the seller provided the correct documentation with MJ’s signature.
As for the car itself, it’s about as cool as an E31-generation 8 Series can get. Being an 850i, it comes with a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, and a six-speed manual gearbox is optional on this particular model. Since BMW wasn’t big on all-wheel drive in the early ’90s, the 850i only sends all of its 375 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. The car also has Mauritius Blue paint and a light patchwork interior. It’s unclear if Jordan installed an AC Schnitzer body kit and wheels on it, but they look great regardless.
The BMW 850i is a very cool car, unfortunately it suffers from some electronic quirks so it’s not the most reliable car. However, it’s also one of the most interesting cars from BMW’s most exciting era. It looks great, has a timeless wedge-shaped, pillarless design, and has a lovely V12 engine and six-speed manual combo.
As of this writing, there are six days left in the auction and the current highest bid is $30,000. Considering its low mileage, condition, great specs, some cool AC Schnitzer parts, and having the greatest NBA player of all time as its first owner, I could see this one breaking the E31 8 Series auction record .
