Michael Jordan’s championship sneaker collection sold for $8 million, setting record

A set of Michael Jordan’s championship sneakers sold for a record-breaking $8 million, according to the BBC.

6 personal Jordan wore these sneakers in the NBA Finals in the 1990s.

During his career, the basketball superstar reached the NBA Finals six times and won each time.

Award-winning sneakers include Air Jordan VI (1991), Air Jordan VII (1992), Air Jordan VIII (1993), Air Jordan XI (1996), Air Jordan XII (1997) and Air Jordan XIV (1998).

According to Forbes, the auction includes a signed, limited-edition photo of the basketball legend celebrating during his four-game winning streak in the finals. The photos were taken by Bill Smith and were taken after the 1992, 1993, 1996 and 1998 NBA Finals.

Sotheby’s called the set of Jordans “the most valuable and important collection” on the market.

“The Dynasty Collection is the single defining ‘Holy Grail’ of sneaker collecting,” said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of streetwear and modern collectibles, Business Insider’s Matthew Kish reports. “They check out everything a collector wants. Qualifications: Championship history, Hall of Fame connections and style.”

In addition to six NBA championships, Jordan’s most illustrious career also included six Finals MVPs, five league MVPs and two Olympic gold medals.

In 2022, Sotheby’s broke another record for Jordan memorabilia when his 1998 “The Last Dance” NBA Finals jersey sold for $10.1 million. This month’s training shoe auction is the second most expensive sale of Jordan game memorabilia.

Michael Jordan is considered the greatest NBA player of all time. He is also the richest former professional athlete in the world.

Since retiring in 2003, he has built a lucrative career and used his wealth for philanthropy.

Although the greatest player in the NBA, Michael Jordan earned less than $100 million, his wealth is estimated to be worth $2 billion.

His business ventures include selling his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets for a huge profit after purchasing the team in 2010.

Dynasty Collection will be on display in Dubai on March 3rd.
