A set of Michael Jordan Champions Air Jordan sneakers has sold at auction for a record-breaking $8 million (£6.33 million).
The six pairs of personal sneakers worn by Jordan during his six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s are being auctioned as part of Sotheby’s “Dynasty Collection.”
On Friday, February 2, the auction house announced that the entire set of sneakers sold for $8,032,800, setting a new global auction record for game sneakers.
The pack includes the Air Jordan VI (1991), Air Jordan VII (1992), Air Jordan VIII (1993), Air Jordan XI (1996), Air Jordan XII (1997) and Air Jordan XIV (1998). Each pair is autographed by Jordan, and the lot also includes limited-edition photos signed by Bill Smith after the 1992, 1993, 1996 and 1998 NBA Finals.
The auction house initially estimated the lot’s value at between $7 million and $10 million. A buyer paid an eye-popping price for the entire collection at a New York City auction house, according to Sotheby’s.
“Today’s record-breaking price is a testament to the GOAT,” Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of modern collections, said in a statement. ESPN the report said. “The Dynasty Collection is undeniably one of the most important collections of sports memorabilia in history. It serves as both a reminder of Michael Jordan’s lasting impact on the world and a tangible expression of his recognized legendary status, and this landmark achievement further confirms that its importance.
“A truly unparalleled moment and milestone in auction history, the sale of these six championship-winning sneakers may never be replicated,” he added.

Dynasty Collection will be on display in Dubai on March 3rd.
This isn’t the first time memorabilia from the legendary basketball player has sold for eye-popping prices. In fact, Jordan still holds the record for the most expensive game-worn sports memorabilia. In 2022, the Chicago Bulls jersey worn by Jordan in Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals was auctioned by Sotheby’s for a record-breaking $10.1 million (£8 million).
Last August, a pair of his autographed Nike Air Ship shoes, which he wore before the release of the popular Air Jordan shoe in 1985, sold for $624,000 (£493,944). Meanwhile, the Air Jordan 13s he wore in Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals sold for more than $2.2 million (£1.8 million) at auction in May 2023.
