Six pairs of Air Jordans worn by Michael Jordan in the NBA Finals sold at auction for $8 million, setting a new record for a game shoe.
Complete set of Air Jordan sneakers Michael Jordanworn by Jordan during his six NBA championships and six NBA Finals MVP victories, The transaction price was US$8,032,800, setting a world auction record for game sneakers.Sotheby’s said on Friday.
“Dynasty Collection” is the second highest amount ever received for Dynasty memorabilia Jordan, behind the $10.1 million jersey worn in Game 1 of the 1998 “The Last Dance” Finals. A pair of sneakers worn in the second game of the final sold for $2,238,000 in April, which at the time was the highest price ever paid for a pair of tennis shoes.
The pack includes the Air Jordan VI (1991), Air Jordan VII (1992), Air Jordan VIII (1993), Air Jordan XI (1996), Air Jordan XII (1997) and Air Jordan XIV (1998).. The Air Jordan VI, VIII, XI and XII sneakers are also autographed by Jordan.
After winning six championships and Finals MVP respectively Jordanwas photographed wearing only one shoe; Jordan Bulls public relations director Tim Hallam granted the Bulls’ wish for a pair of Jordan sneakers after winning their first championship. JordanOnce superstitious, he respected this tradition five times more.
