Michael Jordan’s ‘Dynasty’ shoe collection to be auctioned

(WBBM News Radio) — Six pairs of sneakers worn by Michael Jordan as he led the Chicago Bulls to six championships are up for auction.

Called a “dynasty collection” by Sotheby’s, it includes an Air Jordan sneaker that the legendary shooting guard wore in every key game of the NBA Finals during his two three-peats in the 1990s.

The collection stems from a tradition Jordan started after the Bulls defeated the Lakers for their first championship in 1991, when No. 23 was given to a pair of shoes from longtime team executive Tim Hallam As a souvenir.

Being a bit superstitious, Jordan continued this practice through the Bulls’ next five championships.

The collection will include a collection of signed, one-of-a-kind photographs taken by Bill Smith. The photos, taken after the 1992, 1993, 1996 and 1998 NBA Finals, show Jordan smiling and celebrating his victory wearing only one sneaker. The other has been given to Hallam.

An American private collector later acquired the sneakers from Haarlem.

Sotheby’s predicts that these Nike Air Jordan shoes may sell for as much as $10 million.

The auction will be held in February 2024.
