Michael Jordan’s sneakers sold at auction for staggering price

The historic player continues to set records off the field, this time at auction.

Considered one of the best players in basketball history, he set a new world record. Michael Jordan, who is remembered for his exploits and iconic performances in the NBA, has sold a set of six pairs of sneakers at an auction in New York.

The sneakers that accompanied Jordan in the NBA Finals became the second-highest price ever paid at sales and auctions related to the historic North American player’s sporting goods.

“This is an unprecedented moment and milestone in auction history, and the sale of these sneakers may never be repeated,” said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of modern collections.

The price at the end of the auction was $8 million, a record for footwear worn in a game, according to Sotheby’s, an auction house that specializes in auctioning off art and collectibles including Michael Jordan’s.

“This is a truly unprecedented moment for the greatest basketball player of all time,” Wachter noted.

It is worth mentioning that the number one sports item used in the game is the Finals jersey used in the 1998 season, called “The Last Dance”, which was sold for $10.1 million in 2022.
