This week, the Government confirmed that there is already community circulation of the micron variant in Argentina. Identified just over a month ago in South Africa, this virus mutation is characterized by its high transmissibility and atypical symptoms.
In November, the South African doctor, Angelique Coetzee, was the first to alert this variant. The specialist suspected the existence of a mutation when he treated patients with positive covid and symptoms that do not coincide with the traditional ones in his office.
Among the cases were young people of different origins, all with intense fatigue and a 6-year-old boy with a high pulse. None of them had suffered from loss of taste or smell.
“His symptoms were very different and milder than what he had treated before. Most of the clinical symptoms are concentrated in dhead odor, muscle pain, and fatigue“said Coetzee, who chairs the South African Medical Association.
The patients he had seen for Covid-19 were mostly healthy men who felt “very tired”. About half of them had not received any doses of the Sars-Cov-2 vaccine.
The doctor also emphasized that this new variant has very weak symptoms. That is why he recommended not to fall into an unnecessary panic.
“What we are seeing in South Africa and, remember, I am at the epicenter, it is very weak. For us they are mild cases“He explained to the BBC in November.
