Minsa: 100,000 doses of bivalent vaccine used in Peru in the past 15 days | News

Since August 15, nearly 100,000 doses of the bivalent covid-19 vaccine have been administered nationwide, indicating an increase in the number of vaccinations compared to previous weeks.

The announcement of the first two confirmed cases of infection with the EG-5 (Eris) variant prompted more people to attend vaccinations at the Ministry of Health (Minsa) in Lima and other regions.

The ministry recalled that the bivalent vaccine is a booster vaccine, so named because it contains two protective components that allow the body to better immune response to fight infection.

The first component protects against the original virus and the second against the lineage of omicron variants currently dominating the world.

The bivalent vaccine can be vaccinated from the age of 6 months. For the immunocompromised population, two booster vaccines need to be injected 2 months apart. People over 60 need two booster shots, 4 months apart.

Hundreds of people arrived on Saturday at the Campo de Marte vaccination site in the Jesús María district to catch up on their covid-19 vaccinations.

One of them was Ms Rosa Artica, 102, from Huánuco, who brought her daughter for the first dose of the bivalent vaccine.

It is worth noting that other routine vaccines such as those against influenza, pneumococcus, hepatitis B and tetanus are also used at vaccination sites.
