Miramax CEO Bill Block Quit, Shocking Hollywood – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: In a major shakeup at Miramax, CEO Bill Block will leave the company this week, starting as early as Tuesday when his contract expires. There appear to have been few talks on a new deal with Block, raising questions about exactly what areas the diversified company will focus on.

Block’s departure comes at a time when he has become a catalyst for much of the film business. Block was appointed CEO in 2017.

Miramax, which is 51% owned by beIN and 49% owned by Paramount Global, has transformed itself since the days when its value lay in the library of films built by Bob and Harvey Weinstein. He has become a prolific generator of original projects, some of which are based on IP libraries. When Block was appointed, the company had $150 million in debt and high overhead costs, which were offset by measures that included a 30% workforce reduction. Miramax has doubled revenue and nearly quintupled profits since 2017 under Block’s leadership, according to internal documents reviewed by Deadline.
