Miraflores, August 4, 2023. The City of Miraflores, in coordination with the Peruvian National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa) and the National Forest Service (Serfor), initiated a protocol to properly remove animals that have been stranded on our region’s beaches in recent days.
Between August 1 and 4, the seemingly lifeless remains of eight sea lions and a dolphin were removed off the coast of Miraflores after reports to Senasa. Meanwhile, a wolf was found alive and reported to Serfor for its health to be assessed accordingly.
This sanitation measure, which also includes the participation of the Environmental Development, Cleaning and Green Areas and Health and Social Welfare (Zonoses) sub-administrations, is to safeguard public health, following the protocols established in the Final Disposal Regulations.
Notably, according to Senasa, the sea lion and dolphin deaths reported in August were likely due to complications from bird flu and other factors that are under investigation.
In this sense, the Municipality of the Miraflores District advises bathers and tourists to stay away from places where Dolphins, Tres Picos, Pampira, Macaja, Redondo and Estrela, among others, may be present. Remains on the beach.
