Music and archeology meet in Roma, unplugged festival in Appia Antica park

The second edition of the Festival will take place from 30 June to 2 July in the attractive location of the Appia Antica Archaeological Park, three days of live performances, the Lecturio Magistralis, a concert at sunrise and sunset. There is a special ticket price that includes a visit to the archaeological sites.

(AGR) Music and archeology merge in a unique landscape in the world. The second edition of the Roma Unplugged Festival returns to the Appia Antica Archaeological Park from Friday 30 June to Sunday 2 July. In a suspended time landscape that belongs to eternity, three days of live music come to life, with music in the mornings and evenings, lectrio magistralis and guided tours in perfect harmony with the surrounding environment.

Situated between the Villa dei Quintili and the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, this year the event hosts the incredible voice of Noa, a mogul-like giant in a lectrio magistralis, performing the mystical repertoire with humility and respect by Simone Cristici and Amara Jo Battiato Let’s address. The Energy of San Salvador With a dual placement in both sites, Ralph Towner’s guitar meets Javier Giroto’s Aires tango.

The Festival is organized by the Appia Antica Archaeological Park (Ministry of Culture) under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, Lazio Region, Municipality with the Periferiacapitale program, in collaboration with ETICAARTE, Rete Doc, Nazionale Cantanti and the Charlemagne Foundation. Rome, Parco Regionale Appia Antica, Municipality VII of Rome Capital, Municipality VIII of Rome Capital, Italia Nostra, and with the artistic direction of Gian Luca Pecchini in collaboration with Marco de Persio and Analisa Cipriani.

The Roma Unplugged Festival was created to promote the Appia Antica Archaeological Park. There is a special and reduced ticket price (12 euros for Villa dei Quintili and 10 euros for the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella) which includes not only attending concerts, but also visiting the archaeological sites of Via Appia Antica.

The opening Friday 30 June 21, Achinom Nini, is entrusted to a great voice in Bus Noa for the whole world. The Israeli artist will perform as a quartet joined by guitarist extraordinaire and longtime musical collaborator Gil Dor and composer Daniel Dor on drums and Omri Abramov on saxophone and EWI (electronic wind instrument). Surrounded by the incomparable archaeological scenery of the Villa dei Quintili, the concert will unfold like a journey between past and present, from the artist’s latest albums to his first, unforgettable, successes.

On Saturday 1 July again at 21.00 in Villa dei Quintili Simone Cristici and Amara will be guests of the festival with “We’ll Be Back Again” – the mysterious concert for Battiato. The two performers present Battiato’s mystical repertoire with grace and dignity, becoming bearers of the spiritual messages that have immortalized his work, from the universal prayer Lombra della Luce to the poignant La Cura, from A Ti Vengo A Cerca In the lead up to Torneremo again, their last piece was recorded (and not surprisingly the title chosen for the concert). An exclusive opportunity to rediscover a great heritage in a brand new form arranged by Maestro Valter Sivilotti. With him on stage, soloists from the Nanois Academy of Pordenone: Lucia Clonferro (violin), Igor Dario (viola), Alan Dario (cello), UT Gandhi (percussion), Franca Drioli (soprano). A few hours before the concert, at the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella (at sunset at 7.30 p.m.), a Lesson-Concert from San Salvador comes to life in collaboration with Italia Nostra.

Sunday 2 July we start shortly after dawn in the Villa de Quintili (7am) ​​with the Music Festival of San Salvador. The collective of six voices, twelve hands and one drummer stakes everything on the encounter between rhythm and vocal polyphony, which is the starting point for giving life to their art. The group defines itself as “a popular choir from the Massif Central”, but its prologue is much more than the title might suggest. Capable of evoking “the counterpoints of Steve Reich as well as the energy of a rock concert” – as Liberation writes – the six members of San Salvador represent an important new folk scene from deep France, fueling local repertoire with magnetic, Pulsed and manage to turn into. Relentless polyphonic experimentation.

It continues in the afternoon (6.00 pm) with Mogol’s lecture “The Way of POP”. Famous writers and producers, even listening to some of the songs, will tell the evolution of the interpretation, from the novel to the present day, from Claudio Villa to Ed Sheeran.

The day closes at 21 o’clock with poems by the American Ralph Towner, an incomparable master of the guitar, who will masterfully combine with the skills of Javier Girotto’s Aires tango, giving unprecedented sonic nuances. An unmissable opportunity to listen to songs taken from the album Duende, born of the collaboration between the historic member of Oregon and the Italian-Argentine quartet.

The festival is characterized by a format that respects the extraordinary location that hosts it. Timed meetings and live shows, guided walking tours and limited audience capacity to take advantage of natural light are all actions taken to reduce the environmental impact of a cultural event.
