Actor Michael Rosenbaum played the role of Lex Luthor in the cult DC television series. Smallville. Over seven seasons, Rosenbaum has done a great job of introducing the character to a wider audience. While many would agree that Rosenbaum’s role was accurate, another actor was offered the role: Anson Mount.
There was a strange reason why Mount didn’t appear in the series, however he appeared briefly in the series as another important character. Mount didn’t give up on his dream of starring in a superhero project, playing Black Bolt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Anson Mount has been shortlisted to play Lex Luthor in Smallville
In May 2023, actor Anson Mount appeared on the Talk Ville podcast and recalled that he almost played the role of Lex Luthor in the television series. Smallvilleback in 2001,
“Pretty, pretty close. Yes (when asked if he auditioned for the role) – Michael, don’t you remember that? (laughs) When you got the role, you told me, “I’m going to play the role of Superman; I play Lex Luthor.” We talked on the phone or something like that. (I said) “Oh my God, they offered me this!” This just came out; I do not think. It was the stupidest, most insensitive thing I’ve ever said. I honestly can’t remember (when he was asked why he refused). My representatives really didn’t want me to shave my head, but it didn’t really bother me. I honestly can’t remember why.”
The role of Lex Luthor then went to Michael Rosenbaum. As for Mount, he landed a role in another superhero franchise later in his career. He played the role of Black Bolt in 2022. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and series 2017 In people.
