Oscar-winning actresses Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore will star in the new drama by acclaimed director Todd Haynes, writes Variety.
“May December” tells the story of a Hollywood actress (Portman) who travels to the picturesque coast of Maine to study the real life of a woman (Moore) who is ready to star in a movie. The woman in question was the subject of a tabloid scandal two decades ago because she married a 23-year-old man. As Moore’s character and her husband prepare to send their twins to college, the family’s dynamics begin to unravel during Portman’s remarks.
Samy Burch writes the screenplay, based on his own story and Alex Mechanik. The project will be launched for international sales through Rocket Science at Virtual Cannes Market this year.
Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell of Gloria Sanchez Productions (“Hustlers”, “Booksmart”, “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar”) and Christine Vachon (“Shirley”) and Pam Koffler of Killer Films will co-produce with Portman and Sophie Mas under the MountainA production house.
Filming is scheduled to begin in 2022.
Portman is a three-time Oscar nominee and won the “Best Actress” trophy in 2011 for her role in “Black Swan.”
Moore was nominated five times for the American Film Academy Awards and won the statuette for “Best Actress” in 2015 for her role in the drama “Still Alice.”
