Fans are once again debating whether LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan after Lakers forward LeBron James became the first NBA player to score 39,000 points on Tuesday night.

The 38-year-old James’ early feat against the Utah Jazz has fans revisiting the never-ending “GOAT” debate.

“This is why LeBron is better than Michael Jordan,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Imagine what his numbers will look like in 10 more seasons,” another fan speculated.

James passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387 points in February to become the NBA’s all-time scoring leader. The achievement has since added another layer to the debate that continues to divide the NBA fan base.

“At the end of the day, no one is going to break his record,” said another fan. “They have to maintain excellence for 25 years.”

On Tuesday, James needed just five points to set the record. He scored 17 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds that night, helping the Lakers defeat the Jazz 131-99.

Tuesday’s game also moved James into seventh place on the all-time three-point list. James’ 2,290 three-pointers tie him with Vince Carter but trail Damian Lillard’s 2,421.

Although James has proven his superiority in scoring, Jordan is still ahead of him in other areas.

Jordan has 6 NBA championships and 5 MVP awards, while James has 4 each. Jordan also has a 6-0 NBA Finals record, while James has a 4-6 record in 10 Finals appearances.

James is entering his 21st season since being drafted in 2003. He is currently averaging 25.7 points per game and the Lakers remain one of the strongest contenders in the NBA.

Despite his advanced age, James shows no signs of slowing down, admitting he wants to play in the league with his two sons.

The Lakers have achieved a record of 9 wins and 6 losses this season, winning their last three games. They currently sit sixth in the Western Conference and will host the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night.
