Metro Boomin is the latest to join the NBA GOAT debate. As the saying goes, rappers want to be ballet dancers and ballet dancers want to be rappers. Hip-hop and basketball have intertwined cultures, and debates often intersect.
Hitmaker Metro Boomin joined the debate and answered fan questions on X/Twitter. When Metro was asked who his NBA GOAT was, he answered with a gif of Michael Jordan holding up six fingers while celebrating his sixth NBA championship.
Clearly, Metro is siding with Jordan in this age-old dispute. It seems that he values Jordan’s rings. Jordan has six rings, while LeBron James has four rings.

The rapper is from St. Louis, and the Bulls are the closest NBA team to the area. Maybe Metro grew up a Bulls fan and that’s why he gravitated toward Jordan.
Many fans jumped in after Metro offered to give in their two cents. Some say he did it just to confront another famous rapper.
“He did it because Drake would say Brown,” one fan wrote.

Metro does have a good argument, though. The story begins with Jordan going 6-0 in the NBA Finals. He’s been to far more Finals, but not the same number of championships. James has a record of 4 wins and 6 losses in the finals.
James has had a much longer career than Jordan and is still adding to his lengthy career. He is the scoring leader in NBA history. However, Jordan averaged more points per game than him. Jordan averaged 30.1 points per game in the NBA, while James averaged 27.1 points per game during his career.
When it comes to playoff scoring, LeBron had far more playoff games, but Jordan had a better playoff performance. He averaged 33.5 points per game in the playoffs, while James averaged 28.5 points per game in the playoffs.
While James’ playoff numbers remain among the greatest in history, Jordan’s numbers were higher but never scored 8 points in an NBA Finals like James did against the Mavericks in the 2011 Finals.
LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan in other statistics as well. His passing ability is better, averaging 7.3 assists per game compared to Jordan’s 5.3 assists. His rebound rate is also higher at 7.5 rebounds compared to Jordan’s career average of 6.2 rebounds per game.
