Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has one fewer championship than Kobe Bryant’s five and two fewer than Michael Jordan’s six. But he reportedly doesn’t care about winning one, two or three more titles to match or surpass the championship legacies of these legends.
ESPN’s Zach Lowe said on the Feb. 16 episode of NBA: “Anyone who thinks LeBron is sitting there chasing that ghost every night musing, ‘Kobe has five, Michael has Six, I got four.'” lowe post Podcast (Peter Dewey of Lakers Daily).
“That’s obviously not LeBron’s mentality. That’s what I’ve been hearing privately for a long time.”
Of course, James cares about winning an NBA championship. After all, that’s what being a league contender and reaching the top of the sport is all about.
But there’s a clear difference between chasing titles for these reasons and doing so to enhance your standing in the “best of all time” conversation. It’s clear that James cares about the former, as he continues to dominate the NBA for 21 seasons.
The Lakers must make their way through the brutal Western Conference this season to reach the NBA Finals.
They currently have a record of 30 wins and 26 losses, ranking ninth in the Western Conference, 9.5 games behind the first-place Minnesota Timberwolves. But having a healthy James and Anthony Davis leading the way will definitely help the Lakers win the championship as they look to win their 18th NBA championship in franchise history.
