New cases of Covid-19 increased by 27.7% last week, and influenza cases increased by 84.64%

The Autonomous Community of Madrid ends 2023 with a 27.7% increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases in the last week among the population over 60 years old, and an 84.64% increase in the number of confirmed cases of influenza in the past seven days.

Specifically, during the week of December 25-31, there were 1,447 new cases of Covid-19 among people over the age of 60, with an incidence rate of 90 per 100,000 inhabitants; there were 11,324 cases of influenza, with an incidence rate of 90 per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the Ministry of Health The latest weekly epidemiological report puts the number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants at 167.75, well above the epidemic threshold.

On the other hand, the incidence of respiratory syncytial virus infection in primary medical institutions dropped from the previous week, and cases of bronchitis/bronchiolitis in children aged 0-4 years fell by 37.4%.

Thus, in the last week of 2023, there were 1,447 new cases of Covid-19 among people aged over 60, 314 more than a week earlier (1,133 registered cases) and a 27.7% increase from a week ago. As of 7 days ago, the increase was 27%.
