League looking to improve diversity
The league is working to increase diversity on its coaching staff.
In an effort to diversify its staff, the NFL decided to hold in-person interviews after the divisional round and slow down the hiring process.
Steelers president Art Rooney II said of the decision: “Last year, we moved it to the Wild Card Game. We pushed it back a week.
“The aim is to increase the time available for interviews to give potential coaches more time to prepare and obviously to give clubs more time to prepare.
“Last year, we did see the process from start to finish taking longer. Our average time to hire a head coach was 26 days, which is up from 13 days a few years ago.”
Rooney serves as chairman of the league’s Diversity Committee.
