NFL: Was Tom Brady’s ‘Back in My Days’ Rant Right?

Greg Cote may not be in the studio for Tuesday’s episode of The Dan Le Batard performs with Stugotz But there’s still a “back in my day” segment, courtesy of Tom Brady!

Brady, who recently joined Stephen A. Smith’s podcast, unleashed himself in a way he never did while in New England.

First, Mike said Brady looks great! A year away from football, if it does end up being a year away (a comeback can never be ruled out), you have done the Brady Miracle! Mike says his tan, skin looks great!

Back to the topic at hand, Mike said it was a really bad point that Brady didn’t throw the ball down the middle of the field with Ray Lewis lurking. Still, as Chris Cote pointed out, few players are at the level of defenders Brady mentioned in his perspective. Dan said he wanted to say what the hell he was talking about, but Brady clearly had more expertise than anyone listening to what he was watching. Not to mention, as Mike pointed out, there’s a lot of longevity in playing in a few different eras in the NFL.

But, as Dan points out, Brady sounds like every old player who retires and complains about how things were better in his day. To be fair, Dan says it also ignores the fact that many Brady rules condemn Brady as a direct result of his injuries. When he got hurt, they changed the rules! Dan says his complaint is that NFL legislation protects him above almost everyone else!

Mike asked a tough question: Did we miss Brady this year? Of course, we’re usually excited to watch football games, but he points out that prime-time games already do a lot of that. Mike has a theory that we see a lot of subpar games and a lot of bad prime time games in prime time, partly because he’s not in the league anymore. Mike misses Brady. to a lot. He doesn’t necessarily miss his days in Tampa specifically, but just being in the NFL as a whole makes games feel like an event.

Dan said he doesn’t watch the NFL and wouldn’t think what Brady was thinking in that clip. Dan didn’t think what he saw was a mediocre product. He thinks he’s looking at this product at the height of human athleticism and precision, and it’s also trying to navigate and legislate through the maze of all these injured players. Dan says it’s too dangerous and it’s unsustainable to keep humans healthy for an entire NFL season.

Additionally, Mike noted that no one wants to admit that the defense is getting better. He said the defenses were built to stop what they saw in KC, read options, etc. Mike said you can only dominate for so long and Tom Brady is the only one who can dominate for an entire era. Mike said it was a great era for defense, but it wasn’t sexy, although he noted there was nothing sexier than Tom.

Meanwhile, Jalen Carter nearly made history on a typically uninspiring play…

Exhibition details

Local Time: Ever plugged a hole?

  • The crew asks if you need ice cream for the show, Stu owes a bunch of punishment and needs to pay it off, and Billy, as the iron-fisted commissioner of “BOD,” makes a potentially “unjust” ruling. Plus, does Travis Kelce need to start focusing on the football? The Chiefs’ pass catchers all seem to be bumbling and Jaylen Carter is coming off one of the most unbelievable performances in NFL history. In addition, Jimmy Butler wants to bring back the Skyhook?

The big deal: Taylor’s cyst?

  • Friend of the show Brad Williams caught up with it on the big screen at the Denver Broncos game, and Stugotz clearly wasn’t listening, Tom Brady Has become “an NFL player back in my day.” Plus, Ron Magill joins to answer all your animal-related questions and promote his new book, Pride Of A Lion. Plus, Lucy talks about her experience at Clemson this weekend and the weird things that happened on game day.

Hour One: Are You Afraid of Tim Boyle?

  • Jim Harbaugh was acting weird in his press conference. Chris Cote is clearly afraid of the unknown. That unknown man…is Tim Boyle. Commanders only have cold water for visitors to shower. Is Apple TV a hiding place for celebrities? And Dan is old.

Hour 2: Too many candles for Joe Biden

  • Le Batard, Stugotz and crew discuss Joe Biden’s birthday cake, Angel Reese’s disappearance from the LSU women’s basketball team, and Brian Stelter joining the show. Also, we went to the barrels of death.

Postgame Show: Did people like Manning’s casting?

  • Why is LeBron recruiting Jeremiah Smith for Ohio State? Is there enough room for Kevin Hart to host a ManningCast-type show in the NBA?
