20th Century Studios has released the official trailer for No One Can Save You ahead of its September 22 premiere on Hulu. Look below:
The trailer begins with a routine home invasion before the extraterrestrial nature of the threat becomes dangerously obvious. However, as the trailer progresses, it is revealed that the invasion is not limited to one home, showing the devastation in the world around Dever’s character and the unsettling effect it has on the other survivors.
Aliens and horror can be a powerful combination
The collision of alien invasion films and the horror genre is not common, but when it does, the results can often be explosive. Alien Invasion has been applied to many different sub-genres in the past. This includes a movie about a haunted house (“Dark Skies of Bloomhouse”) and found footage format (“Apollo 18”, “Forgotten Phoenix”).
In fact, one of last year’s biggest horror hits, Jordan Peele’s “No,” combined the spectacle of an alien invasion with an actual monster movie. One of the most respected horror films of all time also combines the extraterrestrial menace with the slasher film sub-genre. It’s Ridley Scott’s Alien, the 1979 classic that spawned a franchise that now includes six films and two crossovers with the Predator franchise.
Whether “Nobody Saves You” can become as powerful as the previously mentioned games remains to be seen. However, it came out just a year after another Hulu original, the Predator prequel Prey, which made a splash by pitting a young Comanche warrior Naru (played by Amber Midgrom) against the full rampage of a predator. If Hulu can maintain its winning streak, they could have another alien horror blockbuster on their hands.
