North Korea launches a spy satellite, and chaos erupts in the Pacific

According to the NK News website, which follows North Korea, the statement issued by the South Korean General Staff stated that North Korea launched a missile into orbit, apparently carrying a spy satellite. The statement claimed that the missile was launched towards the south at 10:50 local time.

The Japanese Coast Guard also warned ships in the area about falling parts of the missile. The step taken by the Pyongyang administration today was the third of the failed attempts to launch a spy satellite on May 31 and August 23.

An alarm has been sounded in Japan

In Japan, the government issued an emergency warning to its citizens in the south of the country to protect themselves from a potential missile threat from North Korea.

The Japanese government told Okinawan residents via emergency broadcast system to take shelter inside buildings or underground. Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) quoted a source in the Japanese Ministry of Defense as saying that the missile may have been a satellite.

Later, the corporation reported that the missile flew over the Pacific Ocean at around 22:55 and the emergency warning was lifted.

North Korea attempts to launch a spy satellite

North Korea attempted to launch a military spy satellite on May 31, but the attempt failed due to a defect in the carrier missile system. Pyongyang’s administration described this attempt as “the most serious mistake” in the first half of the year.

North Korea announced that the satellite would be launched again “properly” within a short time, despite international condemnation.

The Pyongyang administration made a second attempt to launch a spy satellite on August 23, but announced that it also failed. After this failed attempt, North Korea announced that it would try again in October.

South Korea warned

Defense Minister Shin Won-sik announced that North Korea is preparing “to launch a spy satellite within a week.”
