One Piece Live Action (Netflix)
The success of One Piece Live-Action was definitely something that many people didn’t expect. Considering the curse of live action, this monumental success of the anime adaptation brought new hope for a second season. Netflix’s co-CEO joined us this week to give his thoughts on the show’s success. Here, he talked about how the show managed to surpass some of Netflix’s most popular shows in the past.
According to Comicbook, Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, reached out to the public to share his excitement over the success of the One Piece series. The show reached a level of global popularity that many English-language series could only dream of. Sarandos said: “One Piece is number one in 84 countries, which Stranger Things didn’t do, The Wednesday didn’t do.” And it’s rare for an English-language show to be so popular in Japan and Korea. , Brazil and the USA at the same time.”
Sarandos also praised Inaki Godoy, who plays the iconic character Monkey D. Luffy, highlighting that casting him was one of the most challenging tasks in the history of Netflix original programming. Netflix’s third-quarter report also praised One Piece, calling it a shining example of the platform’s diversity, reach, recommendations and loyal fans.
The live-action adaptation, based on Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga, has received rave reviews, generated significant buzz on social media platforms such as TikTok, and amassed a sizable audience.
Netflix has officially confirmed the renewal of the second season. Series creator Eiichiro Oda personally shared the exciting discovery in a video posted by Netflix Geeked on X (formerly Twitter). Oda expressed his gratitude to both longtime fans and newcomers, thanking them for their support throughout the first season. He also hinted at the appearance of Tony’s favorite character Tony Chopper in the second season.
