The story that inspired the director of such hits as Interstellar or The Dark Knight, which is featured in the documentary, is linked to the Manhattan Project, the military research program that led to the study and creation of the first atomic bombs during World War II. In 1942, the brilliant physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer he was called to lead the secret Los Alamos laboratory in New Mexico, and it was in the desert of the American state that the first deadly bomb test was carried out on July 16, 1945.
This first test showed the destructive power of the newly created weapon and Oppenheimerlater called himself “Death, destroyer of worlds”, quoting a Hindu text. Designed with the intention of ending the war, if only as a threat to Japan, the bombs were dropped on August 6 and 9, 1945, razing the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and killing over 200,000 civilians. Reflecting on the serious implications of this invention, Oppenheimer he fell into deep despair and became the voice of the moral conscience of a civilization that suddenly gained the ability to destroy itself.

Sky Cinema pays tribute to the visionary director with a channel dedicated entirely to his work.
