Of course, compared to when I was a little girl who barely talked to people — my mom was the exact opposite — today I feel a lot more confident and focused on my priorities.

‘I hope not, because that would mean things are not going well with Paulo. But in general, yes, I could have done that too, maybe not exposing myself as much. But in general I’ve been her fan since I was little, I really like her and I love every song of hers: I had her CDs and copied how she danced».

Can you ever sing in Italian?

«My surname is Italian, my origin is partly Italian, so I would love to be a singer in Italian. I’m taking the course, but there’s a chord in your speaking that unfortunately isn’t mine yet. There was never a moment when I said to myself: well, I’m going to Italy. Only at a certain point, after spending six months in Turin (Dybala was playing for Juve at the time), did I realize that, in fact, I was living here. Today I feel like an Italian citizen, even though it affects me a lot, I would not have imagined it, but now I feel at home in this country».

Do you also like Italian music?

«Pretty much, because it’s a mix between the pop and Latin sound that I’m familiar with. I met Andrea Bocelli who was a legend of mine, then I love Laura Pausini and Tiziano Ferro: with my sister we used to listen to her CDs all the time. Then I appreciate Sfera Ebbasta and Fedez, who I met and were very nice to me».

You have a huge following on social media: do you feel responsible for this?

‘Definitely yes. I always try to say what I needed to hear when I was a teenager. Whenever I can talk about eating disorders or mental health: I would also love to be the stars I used to be as a child, but we are only now starting to address some of the issues. Less and less than necessary. I am also a feminist and I have always sided against patriarchy: I think it is right and fair to expose yourself to certain issues, especially if you have the opportunity to make certain topics more visible».

Do you think gender equality in music has been achieved?

«When I was a kid, Latin music was dominated by men, with the exception of Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. As a result the songs always had certain themes, they sexualized women … Many steps forward have been made in this sense, but we have to take this idea of ​​change to the music industry as well».

Would you like to sing in Sanremo?

«Now that I understand what it represents and how important it is of course, it will be a dream, even if a bit pretentious at the moment. But after all dreams have to be made big, don’t they?

Does your boyfriend give you advice about your music?

‘He’s always very candid: he’s not a very talkative person, but he gives me honest reviews. I appreciate him for this and I take note of what he says: he never gives me up and loves music, he is capable too. That’s why I listen to his advice and know that if he likes a song, he really likes it.”
