Pneumonia cases increase in Honduras due to cooler temperatures – Hondudiario

Pamela Olivera, COVID-19 surveillance coordinator at the Ministry of Health, said pneumonia cases increase at this time of year due to falling temperatures, and it is recommended to take necessary measures.

Oliveira explained that Honduras reports an increase in cases of respiratory illnesses in minors during two seasons of the year, June to July. Later in November and December, temperatures drop.

In this case, he recommended taking the necessary measures, which include, inter alia: hand washing, sheltering minors and the elderly to avoid illnesses that could lead to hospitalization.

Likewise, he recalled that the most vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly, are the most vulnerable to such respiratory diseases.

Oliveira said that while these viruses are normal, health authorities are prioritizing the issue to avoid spreading like in China.

“Viruses of respiratory origin are normal and can spread easily. In view of the increasing cases of pneumonia in children that are occurring in China, we are coordinating to prevent its spread in the country,” he noted. PC/Hondou Diario
