The Vatican announced that Pope Francis had to suspend his schedule of events due to a “mild flu,” according to a statement published in the Daily Bulletin of the Vatican Press Office.

“Due to a mild case of influenza, the Pope has canceled today’s audience as a precautionary measure,” the brief statement said, indicating that the 87-year-old supreme pontiff planned to receive deacons from the Diocese of Rome, among other events.

Pope spokesman Matteo Bruni reported that the traditional Sunday Angelus had now been fixed, adding that there would be no further information on the pope’s health on that day.

This is not the first time a pope has faced health issues. In late November, he came down with bronchitis, forcing him to cancel some events and celebrate the Angelus in the papal palace instead of looking out the window in front of the faithful in St. Peter’s Square. That time, too, he had to be replaced by a collaborator to read his speech. (Santa Cruz IPO Agency) Based on information from NA
