Portland election is about to change, Michael Jordan leads

Portland, Oregon. (KOIN) — Portland voters have a lot to think about this election season.

Even as the Rose City grapples with ongoing homelessness and fentanyl crises, the city is moving forward with a new form of government.

The new city council will have 12 commissioners, instead of the current five, and they will be elected in four newly created districts, with three commissioners elected in each district through ranked-choice voting.

A new city administrator position would take over the authority rather than individual commissioners, meaning the mayor would have a different role than the three current Portland commissioners vying for the position.

Michael Jordan Responsible for guiding the city through this transition.

He is the City of Portland’s Chief Administrative Officer, leading the Office of Management and Finance, and has held similar administrative positions with the City, Metropolitan Area Government, and the State of Oregon.

Michael Jordan joins Watch Northwest Politics to discuss the upcoming changes and how they will impact this year’s election.
