what happened? Will it happen again?
At 8:27 pm yesterday, a failure occurred in the local power generation system (central independent), causing the electric transport facilities to be taken out of service, and thus the distribution system facilities to be taken out of service.
The failure of the power generation system resulted in the saturation of the “Río Hondo – Villa Quinteros” high-voltage line (LAT), which is used as a supplementary support for Tucumán’s energy transport system.
Why use extra installation instead of usual line?
One of the most important energy transport lines in the province is the one connecting El Bracho to the independent substation, which connects electricity generation with consumption centers in the capital and south of the province. The line has been out of service since Sunday, October 22, due to damage caused by hurricanes in the area, which caused high-strength reinforced concrete columns to collapse and damage others, with a total of nine columns having to be replaced or repaired.
Due to the unavailability of the above mentioned facilities, Central Independencia uses more generation than usual and receives energy via alternative lines (Río Hondo – Villa Quinteros).
The failure of the central independent line and the saturation of alternative lines activated the facility protection system, causing a series of substations to be taken out of service from the southern part of San Miguel de Tucumán to Concepción.
After the first 20 minutes, service began to gradually resume and the power plant began operating again. After about 2 hours, the service normalized.
Will this happen again?
As long as the damaged facilities are not repaired, the incident is likely to happen again. Transport concessionaires are working to replace the damaged towers, but the soil is not strong enough to complete repairs to the affected structures, so we must wait for the rain to stop and for the heavy machinery and columns to be moved. Install firmly again.
Once you do this, the system will return to its usual configuration.
