The Dukes of Sussex, who claim to be “speechless”, ask for support for charities that help those affected in both countries
The Dukes of Sussex, Prince Harry of England and his wife Meghan Markle, have published this Tuesday a letter on the website of their Archewell Foundation about the earthquake that has struck Haiti and the triumph of Taliban in Afghanistan in which they claim to feel “dismayed” and have been “speechless.”
“The world is exceptionally fragile right now,” the couple’s text begins. “As we all feel the many layers of pain due to the situation in Afghanistan, we are left speechless. As we all watch the growing humanitarian disaster in Haiti and the threat of it getting worse after last weekend’s earthquake, our hearts are broken. And while we are all witnessing the continuing global health crisis, exacerbated by new variants and constant misinformation, we are left scared & rdquor ;.
“When a person or a community suffers, a part of each one of us does it with them, whether we realize it or not. And although we are not destined to live in a state of suffering, we, as a people, are being conditioned to accept it. It’s easy to feel powerless, but we can put our values into practice together, “the statement continued.
Request for support to charities
That is why they encourage all their followers to support “the different charities that carry out fundamental work to help those affected”, among which they cite the World Central Kitchen, Women for Afghan Women, Afghanaid, Mercy Corps and the Invictus Games Foundation. In the letter, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex also urge world leaders and all those in a position of global influence “to move rapidly forward in humanitarian dialogues that are expected to take place this fall, in multilateral meetings such as the General Assembly of the UN and the G-20 Leaders Summit “.
