Tom Brady took to Instagram to celebrate the Las Vegas Aces’ WNBA Finals victory as he added a championship ring to his collection.
The Aces defeated the New York Liberty 70-69 in a thrilling Game 4 to clinch their second straight title — less than a month after Brady was officially approved as a minority owner of the team.
Brady was delighted for the team and he penned a touching tribute to the Aces.
“So proud of these women and this organization,” he wrote on Instagram. “Everyone played their best all year and never missed.”
The quarterback then posted a story honoring each player on the active roster, as well as coach Becky Harmon.
Brady was also seen watching Game 1 of the Finals with owner Mark Davis in Las Vegas.
This is Brady’s eighth championship after winning an astonishing seven bowl titles in the NFL (six with the Patriots and one with the Buccaneers).
Brady and the Aces announced the purchase of a minority stake in the team on March 23, but the deal was not finalized until October 3.
The former quarterback has also invested in Championship club Birmingham City, while he has also agreed to become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders – which Davis also owns.
However, the deal has stalled, with The Washington Post saying it is unlikely to be approved at the next owners meeting on October 17-18.
Things are further complicated by a new non-equity policy enacted by the NFL that prohibits employees who are not family members from taking stock in a team.
Brady is not technically an employee of the Raiders yet, but as Pro Football Talk reported in July, Davis had planned to hire the 45-year-old Brady in some capacity as part of the deal. Davis reportedly informed other owners of the plan at a league meeting.
Now, since the no-equity rule was adopted, Davis’ hopes of hiring Brady and selling him part of the team have become considerably more complicated.
