The King’s praise for the dynamic footballer sparked a lot of reactions on X. Check out some of the best reactions below, including one fan praising James’ knowledge of his second favorite sport.
LeBron James football career
LeBron James excels both on the court and on the hardwood. James was a tight end and wide receiver in high school before quitting football. He was even recruited by major schools to play football before focusing on basketball.
James played two seasons of football at Akron High School in Ohio. This is a state where football is king and competition is fierce. He was already 6-foot-8 and 232 pounds in high school. He’s not the fastest player, but he provides huge targets and mismatches in the passing game. Despite his size on the court, he put up solid numbers.
In high school football, he averaged over 20 yards per catch. Lamar James has thrown 23 touchdowns in two seasons. He’s on pace to join the top 10 touchdown catchers in Ohio high school football history.
In his sophomore year, James caught 46 passes for 905 yards and seven touchdowns. His junior season was even better. He caught 57 passes for 1,160 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Even though James isn’t the most graceful guy running around in pads, he’s still a force to knock down. His size did sometimes hinder him from a more graceful run in his youth.
LeBron James is hard to beat by the first tackler. His best skill is being a huge target for quarterbacks given his catch radius and size.
His achievements were duly recognized as he earned the title of Mr. Ohio, a title given to the state’s premier high school athlete, and earned All-State honors during his two football seasons.
Ultimately, a wrist injury prompted James to give up on his football dreams and instead focus on basketball—a decision that ultimately proved to be a wise one.
